how to find a stronghold in Minecraft SP?

I really want to find an End portal, but I can't find a Stronghold. I have Minecraft SP, wich I downloaded from a website, Partis.si. I tried throwing an Ender Eye, or whatever it's called, but it doesn't work. Can anyone tell me how to find it?

Hi,

 

Throwing an eye on ender should work but you need a lot of them.   Throw one up in the air and it will go in a direction and fall to the gorund.  Go pick it up.  Repeate precess but in the direction that it went.   Eventually,  they will not go any further and just sink into the gound.  Dig in that spot and u will come to the stronghold.  Then dearch and search to find the portal :D.  Alternatively,  you can cheat by using the xray mod.  Here is the link to the mod. http://www.minecraftdl.com/x-ray-mod/
