  • ROOKIE QUESTION: HOW CAN I JOIN SERVERS/GET OUT OF SPAWN ROOM?

    +1 vote

First of all gents, sorry for being a major annoyance with a super rookie question, but I'm doing this for a 6 year old Minecraft aficionado, who has been diligently and religiously building his own world for a while now, and would like to play online with the boys and girls of Minecraft, as he's getting bored building his own stuff in creative mode.

So his mom and I are trying to set it up for him, since he's too young to comprehend stuff such as joining servers and stuff.

    So what happened:

I went to join servers directly, googled some servers, wrote in the digits, and pressed join.
    > Some servers said we have a different version to what is being run on the server (?) and another reported the lack of "FML" (I instantly geniously assumed this doesn't mean "f*** my life" :D).

So we were trying with other servers, and we managed to enter a few, BUT.

They wouldn't really let us "IN". I googled it, it seems this is called the spawn room. I googled how to exit the spawn room and ACCEPT the rules written on walls, but had no luck.

    Continuing here (forum post limit)

    Got links like these:
    http://minecraft-ans...les-in-a-server

And here it would say to type in "/accept rules" or a version of this. Note that the rules on the wall do not say how to proceed, just list the rules of the server, such as no swearing, flooding, etc.

So we kept being trapped in a room, and couldn't get out. Another server we got on, everything was disabled, the lil man couldn't build, dig or do anything.

Basically I need help how to setup some enjoyable time for the kiddo, preferrably if you could tell me which beginner servers to join, and how to get out of the spawn room and start playing with others.

Again, sorry I barged in with such a superretarded question, I'm aware most of you are rolling your eyes now, and so would I probably, if the last online game I played wasn't Starcraft or even SuperDune 2 (this one wasn't even online :D).

May join this minecraft thing myself, but would like to set it up for the kid first.

Any help is rewarded with beer and lots of respect from moi. :D

    Gracias.

P.S. mods, if you think there is a more suitable subforum for this, please switch it there, don't delete it, I'm trying to help the kid out and he's returning from his grandma's place in 2 days, the countdown has begun my friends. Gotta figure this out before he returns. :D

Well, there are many servers that have server games and building and such, but I suggest going into multiplayer settings and turning off chat and only putting commands. This would be best because your child may not enjoy the words of others. Some servers doesn't have 'rule areas' to accept like SlabCraft or CraftShark, but it is best noted if you read over the rules. If you have numbers for a server, it is most likely unknown. More popular have more admins and is better for people to play. I don't know if this will help you, but I hope it will.
