every time i try to add a mod it crashes what should i do

Depends how you install it and on what Running System you are using (for your computer).  If you are not using MC Patcher already, it may just fix your problem.  Try force updating you minecraft (on the login screen go Options-->Force Update).  Make sure the mods you are using are up to date and work with 1.2.5.
