Please help - My son is really into Minecraft and I need help understanding mods.

I am not sure if I chose the correct category for my question. Thank you for your patience with me.

 

I have not had a lot of time to spend to better understand this, but I/we are having problems adding (not even sure if this is the correct term to use) mods. I have been successful one or two times, but it seems when he finds one he wants that there might be varying instructions or none to explain how to actually add them to Minecraft. Does adding a mod to Minecraft vary by the mod? Are there simple instructions for this? I have researched, but think I have actually confused myself more. He has a new mod, Instant Blocks, and I do not know what to do with the file I downloaded. We have a Mac. Any help/guidance is greatly appreciated.

for most bods they will leave instructions on the sight in wich you downloaded. I higly recomened u to get winrar.

Just get magic launcher, follow the instructions and all should be fine...

If you need help go to YouTube and look up "(Mod Name) tut"If you don't know what mods in the first place it is a add-on to the minecraft game as the aether,a new place you can go that is haven like or like the tails of the kingdom mod that add a kingdoms.The bad things about mods are the fact that you have to install manually.I hope I help and go on youtube for help and follow each step or you MAY CAUSE YOUR MINECRAFT TO GET DEL!I hope I help and if you keep having problems got get the technic that let you chose mod packs but it lags more then the minecraft it seft.Hope I help :)
