hi folks - can you help a frustrated, non-tech savvy dad load a mod for his boy? This is our first attempt to use a mod.
We are trying to load the "Tropicraft" mod onto Minecraft version 4.1 (on Windows 7)
Using 7zip, we have downloaded Tropicraft (currently compressed)and  ModLoader, and Minecraft  Forge (compressed) v. 3.3.8.152
What should we do and in what order?

We've tried a few things and they did not work -- but maybe we just did it in the wrong order

Thank you very much for your expertise!

    Hey,

What I reccomend you do is install all the mods with a mod loader called 'MC Patcher'.  It will install all the mods for you and then you can uninstall the mods with a click of the mouse. Download MC Patcher from here: http://www.minecraftforum.net/topic/1496369-145-144-132-etcupdate-1110-mcpatcher-hd-fix-243-04/ (Sorry its not a link, the link placer doesnt work for me. Just copy and paste the link into the adress bar).  Grab all the relevant mods and loaders for 'Tropicraft'  ( I would also recommend downloading a mod called 'TooManyItems' to help you in the game) also make sure all of the mods and loaders are in compressed form.  Open Mc Patcher.  It will analyse your minecraft.  Click the bar saying 'mod', click 'add...'  and add the compressed tropicraft to it.  Do the same thing with all of the mods and loaders. Click patch.  You can keep mc patcher open or close it but the mod should now be installed!  Have fun and if you have any problems feel free to ask another question or private message me (you will need a minecraft answers account to messange me) and I will do my best to help you!

Hi miklvy -- couldn't get it to work. The controls on mc patcher are diff't than you describe, but I went to the menu on top, clicked ADD, selected the zipped tropicraft, modloader, and minecraft forge, then clicked Patch. But we got no results. I also tried moving those three zip folders into the Textures folder. That made them come up in the minecraft UI to start with, but it didn't seem to make a difference that they were there--the actual tropicraft mods were not present in the game itself.
Tried that trick with the Mods folder as well, no luck.
There is also a 4.1.3 folder within the Mods folder, but I didn't mess with that.
Can you advise? I must be missing a step.
(also MC loader doesn't seem to turn up in search even though I've downloaded it -- where does that live do you know?)
    thanks much!
