You cannot, the username you registered with is what you get. The reason of this is because if everyone was changing their names all the time, think how confusing it would be on servers, and ranks would reset..

Drag the contents of the optifine.rar into your minecraft.jar (open both with an application like winrar or winzip) and then it should be installed. You can also do this more easily with HDPatcher or Magic Launcher.

Don't forget to turn rendermode to "multi-core" after you have installed OF.

You may want to fund some money for making a multiplayer server with him, ask your son if he knows or plays any of them, if he doesn't , he can search for them on google, or make one himself, (it will cost a bit of money to run a succesful one though) or if his friend can meet up with him on a server? If they both know the ip, they can 'link' together in play :) Hope I helped!

Hmmm, if this answer helps now, I'd say he has played too much? Even though Minecraft doesn't take a lot to run, try re installing it or even deleting the .minecraft file in %appdate% in run, it will get rid of his saves though, so make sure he hasn't got any big projects going on! Hope I helped!

Figured it out - It was a stronghold containing an end portal. Cartographer G while old is still very useful - using the isometric north cave rendering I have been able to find many different dungeons and massive systems underground. Very useful if you want to speed up finding a stronghold - I had never found one so Cartographer G really helped.
