  • I can't update my game. I played around with the folder to get a mod does that affect it?

    no, it does not. If your minecraft isn't updating, try going to minecraft.net and playing in browser. The in-browser game might ask you to update. Allow it, and it will also update your .minecraft as well. Then, go back to launcher and check if that worked. If it didn't, I'm all out of ideas.

    Yes, it is very possible that messing around with the games files will prevent you from updating. If you keep getting a black screen or a frozen loading bar, these are typical examples. You're best bet would be to reinstall your game, but don't forget to save your single player files!
