Most multiplayer servers have some variation of a "home" function. This is quite commonly bound to the command "/sethome", so you could try going to the place you want to spawn and typing "/sethome" in chat. Beds also work to set spawn point in many SMP servers. If neither of these works, you'll have to consult the documentation or forum for your server.
